Tonga is the only remaining Kingdom in the South Pacific. Democratic reforms are promising a bright future for the Tongan people. Vava'u is the largest of the Kingdoms northern island group. Rich in culture and breathtaking in beauty its isolation finds it relatively untouched by commercial development. It is like stepping back in time 30 to 40 years. Developments in communication and transportation are making Vava'u more accessible.
One of Vava'u's most unique events is the yearly arrival of the oceans mystical giants. The Humpback whales migrate from the Antarctic to give birth and breed in Vava'u. Vava'u is one of the only places in the world that allows people to swim with Humpback Whales.
A visit to Vava'u is an opportunity to see and feel what it was like in the South Pacific during a slower and more relaxed era. |
